It has been a challenging start to the 2025 MXGP World Championship for Factory Yamaha’s Jago Geerts. Following an injury-plagued rookie MXGP season in 2024, the Belgian rider was determined to kick off this year on a stronger note. However, the opening rounds of the season have proven to be tough as he continues to find his form in the highly competitive MXGP class.

This past weekend, Geerts competed in the opening round of the Dutch Masters of Motocross, and it appeared to be a positive step in the right direction. The Dutch sand suited him well, and he looked much more comfortable on-board his Yamaha. With two consistent fourth-place finishes, he secured third overall on the day, which can hopefully serve as a confidence boost moving forward.

Interesting comments from Geerts following the race revealed that he has returned to a more standard setup on his Yamaha. It seems a reset back to basics certainly helped with his Dutch Masters performance and it could be the key to turning his season around.

Looking ahead, the MXGP series now moves to Riola Sardo in Sardinia this weekend, a track that traditionally favors sand specialists like Geerts. After missing the event last year, he’s eager to return to the deep, demanding terrain. A strong result in Sardinia could be just what he needs to rebuild his confidence and establish himself as a top-ten contender.

“I felt good on the bike today. It was a fun race and I had two good starts. I finished two times in fourth position, almost third in the second race as I was on the back wheel of Bonacorsi but it was just too late to make the pass. I am really satisfied with my riding today.

We did quite a few changes (to the bike). I am riding more of a standard bike at the moment. I feel really good on the bike and it is working for me. It’s fun that I can ride like how I want to, again.

I am really happy to go to Sardinia, it is always a fun race. I obviously missed it last year so it will be good to be back in the deep bumps of Sardinia.”
